At 16, I was the only student in my year not invited to audition for the music program. Thirty-four others were selected. I wasn't even given the chance to try.
That spring break, I decided to build my own way in. I wrote an album from my bedroom in Bristol, learned to chop samples and synthesize sounds in Ableton, and cold-emailed a label executive in Toronto. Before I finished school, I had my first record deal.
Almost overnight, I went from bedroom beatmaker to working professional. That single demo led to URBNET Records, BBC Radio 1 airplay, touring across the UK, and sound post-production at Warner Bros. on films shown at Cannes.
